Our school at a glance
La Source is a special-needs primary school in Soignies, Belgium. We welcome children aged 2.5 to 13. This page summarises the essentials; the full website is in French.
Which children do we welcome?
In Belgium, special-needs education is organised into types, according to each child's needs. Our school runs four of them:
- Type 1 — learning difficulties linked to a mild intellectual disability. Returning to mainstream secondary education remains possible.
- Type 2 — severe intellectual disability. The focus is on communication, independence and functional learning.
- Type 3 — normal or above-average intelligence, but behavioural and emotional difficulties that hold learning back. Psychological support is part of the work.
- Type 8 — instrumental disorders: dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysorthographia, dysphasia. Speech therapy and adapted teaching methods.
We also run a language class and TEACCH classes for children on the autism spectrum.
How do I enrol my child?
- An assessment report from a PMS/CLB centre or an approved service states which type of education suits your child.
- A visit to the school. The head teacher will show you around and answer your questions. It commits you to nothing.
- Call us on 067 33 13 83 to arrange a visit.
If you do not speak French, please say so when you call — we will find a way.
Practical information
- School hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:15 to 15:10; Wednesday from 8:15 to 12:25. Lessons start at 8:45.
- Morning care: from 7:30, free of charge, supervised. After 15:10 the school does not run an after-school club, but we can walk your child to one in the centre of Soignies.
- School transport: organised by the Walloon Region, which assigns your child to a route. Our office will help you apply.
- Lunch: a hot meal is served every day. Children who bring a packed lunch eat with everyone else.
